On Monday, May 27th 2024, Egyptian forces opened fire on Israeli soldiers at the Rafah Crossing. At least one Egyptian soldier died in the exchange. Prior to this in early May, an Israeli businessman was murdered in Alexandria. On October 8th, two Israeli tourists were killed along with their local guide in Alexandria as well. Before these, in June 2023, three IDF soldiers were shot dead in an attack on the Egyptian border.
