56 | Shadow Work with Dr. Ido Cohen
Description
What is shadow work? How do you identify and work with your golden shadow as opposed to your darker shadow?
Join Nadia as she interviews Dr. Ido Cohen, Jungian psychologist and psychedelic educator.
In this episode, we explore several avenues of spirituality, psychological, and personal growth:
Understanding Synchronicity: Dr. Cohen delves into the concept of synchronicity, explaining it as a meaningful connection between internal and external events that go beyond mere coincidence. This includes how synchronicities can be seen as messages or signs from the subconscious or the universe.
Jungian Psychology and the Self: The discussion covers Jungian psychology extensively, particularly the concept of the 'Self' and its relationship with the ego. Dr. Cohen describes how the ego acts as a translator and processor for messages from the Self, aiding in personal growth and understanding.
Role of Psychedelics in Spiritual Practice: The podcast explores how psychedelics can be integrated into spiritual practice, offering profound experiences and insights. Dr. Cohen emphasizes the importance of proper integration of these experiences into one's life.
Shadow Work: A significant portion of the conversation is dedicated to understanding the shadow self, including both the 'golden shadow' (hidden talents and positive aspects) and the 'darker shadow' (repressed or negative aspects).
Processing Trauma and Life Challenges: Dr. Cohen discusses the importance of working through traumatic experiences and challenging life events as opportunities for growth and learning.
Spirituality as a Taboo and Personal Exploration: Addressing the taboo surrounding spirituality in certain cultures and communities, and the importance of creating a safe space for exploring and discussing spiritual topics.
The Importance of Integration Work: For making sense of and applying insights from both peak psychedelic experiences and deep psychological work in day-to-day life.
Rebirth and Transformation: Dr. Cohen shares his experience of his house burning down, and how such events can lead to profound and unexpected personal change.
Engaging with the Invisible: The episode delves into the importance of engaging with the 'invisible' or aspects of life and the psyche that are not immediately visible or tangible, but deeply influential.
Approaching Life Changes and New Beginnings: Lastly, Dr. Cohen discusses practical ways to approach life changes and new beginnings, emphasizing the importance of taking small, conscious steps towards transformation.
