I'm your host, Andrew McGivern for November 23rd. We’re celebrating Be Thankful for My Dog Day, and honestly, what better time to reflect on how our furry friends bring joy, love, and maybe a few chewed-up shoes into our lives? It’s also Wofenoot Day, a quirky celebration of kindness, generosity, and the bond we share with dogs and their wolf ancestors. Whether you’re the proud owner of a lovable golden retriever or just someone who admires dogs from afar, today is all about honoring the magic they bring to our lives. Today’s quote comes from Dean Koontz, who beautifully said: “Once you have had a wonderful dog, a life without one is a life diminished.”Koontz really nailed it, didn’t he? Dogs have this way of leaving a permanent paw print on our hearts. After you’ve shared your life with one, there’s a distinct emptiness in their absence—a silence where there used to be a bark, a cold spot on the bed where there was once a warm cuddle. But rather than focus on what’s missing, Be Thankful for My Dog Day reminds us to celebrate the time we do have with our canine companions. Dogs live in the moment—they don’t dwell on the past or worry about the future. They’re too busy enjoying belly rubs, sniffing the air, or waiting for you to drop a piece of bacon. On Wofenoot Day, we can take this gratitude even further. Wolves, like dogs, are symbols of loyalty and family bonds. They remind us of the strength found in unity and how much we can accomplish when we care for one another. So whether your dog is snoozing at your feet right now or you’re reminiscing about a beloved pet from the past, think about how much they’ve taught you. Maybe it’s how to appreciate the little things, like a walk on a crisp fall day, or how to love wholeheartedly, without hesitation. Today, celebrate your dog—or any dog, really. Give an extra treat, take them on an adventure, or just spend some quality time together. And if you don’t have a dog, maybe pay it forward in another way—donate to a shelter, volunteer, or simply carry that spirit of unconditional love into your interactions today. Thanks for spending part of your day with me on The Daily Quote. I’ll see you tomorrow, and until then, let your day be as full of joy as a dog chasing its favorite ball.
