A good podcast broken :(
This podcast was always something of a curiosity; Presented by a man not known for radio, with two relatively unknown comedians on a radio station known for being hack and washed up. Despite this unpromising start and with some essentially tired ideas it excelled through the quality of the presenters. The podcast is essentially based around repetition with the same simple ideas played out again and again as the scaffolding through which the three excellent comedians plied their trade. It was I thought more luck than judgement that Absolute ended up with such a strong mix, with Danielle Ward in particular emerging as the standout performer (still no billing though) and Martin White’s unconventional and affable presentational style adding a uniqueness which brought freshness to the old formats. Of course it turned out Absolute were the tedious hacks and peddlers of bland pop I assumed and it was luck they ended up with the presentational team. Having failed to understand the importance of repetition for the format they sacked White and have a revolving door of guest presenters, none of whom can participate properly in the games and pun street through simply not understanding the folk law that makes them so amusing. Since White’s removal, DW and DG have done a good job but the format is fundamentally broken and some episodes have been dire. Sunday 27/05 podcast being exceptionally poor and the first I have given up on. A good podcast ruined by commissioners who did not understand it.
