“This is a wonderful podcast, it is thought-provoking and entertaining and exactly what I was looking for while reading more of C.S. Lewis.
I have been a big fan of The Chronicles of Narnia all my life, from having the books read to me, reading them myself many times, to listening to Focus on the Family’s Radio Theatre adaptations on many a roadtrip. - As an aside, I am the person in my social circles who teaches, and slightly badgers, my friends that the CORRECT way to read them is in publication order. It is very gratifying to hear other people fight this corner. Oh and the Horse and His Boy is my favorite too!
In Fall 2021 I wanted to read other works by C.S. Lewis and decided the natural transition was through the “modern fairytales for grown-ups,” the Cosmic Trilogy. I was captivated by those books, they affected me emotionally, made me reflect on my own spiritual life, and were very impactful. I told lots of people to read them so I could discuss them, but it’s hard to get into all the details with just one conversation after finishing a book.
At some point in my Cosmic Trilogy companion quest, and wanting to read more of Jack, I was pointed to this podcast and I am so glad I was! Although you have not yet covered the Cosmic Trilogy, (and I am so excited that the book for season 6 will be Out of the Silent Planet!!), it is wonderful to listen to you discuss Lewis’ works at a deliberately thoughtful pace. I read Till We Have Faces in January 2022 and got so little out of it that I began the podcast at Season 3 and you illuminated much more of the intentions and meaning of the book for me. I think my biggest mistake was reading it too quickly because I was quite enthusiastic after finishing the Cosmic Trilogy.
I have since gone through several of the 5 seasons, because my job allows me to listen to several hours a day, and I am so looking forward to Season 6 and lengthy discussions of the marvelous adventures of Elwin Ransom.
Thank you so much for all the work and fun that goes into this podcast. It came to me at just the right time and continues to be a great source of joy!
P.S. Have you heard of the singer-songwriter Sarah Sparks and her album, Into the Lantern Waste? It is another part of my Narnia world and so beautiful! Most of the songs are written for individual characters in the series and I never grow tired of them. I highly recommend it! The last song is called Come Further Up and I think of it frequently at the podcast sign-off.
Sorry for the length it was part review, mostly personal note of my enjoyment of the show. I also enjoy hearing what else you all are reading, and even the scotch notes although I have no experience with scotch. It makes me sound like I know what I’m talking about to people who do like scotch.”
