Why did I subscribe to this...
I subscribed, listened to 2 episodes and unsubscribed. Never thought the Economist journalist would be so bad at asking questions. Everything was vague and there’s nothing interesting or substantive in the questions. It’s like cable news. Please go elsewhere for good journalism. The episode that interviewed the mayor of LA somehow made me few like I learnt less about him/his city. The episode about HK protests somehow was about the “violent protestors” without addressing the violence of the state. Also, is this really the place to ask a question about “the role of women”? If you’re doing an international reporting about women, please at least ask a question that shows you actually did some research instead of acting like patriarchy functions the same way in every society.

Anne McElvoy is a charming interviewer. Lighthearted for sure but sharp with the probing questions and follow up questions. Put her with leaders from business, politics, and the arts and you have a satisfying, engaging listen.

Yes, Anne McElvoy is arrogant and argumentative, but she's also not a sycophant, and if that's what you want, there are hundreds of other, lesser interview podcasts you can listen to. She gets more out of her guests precisely because she asks tough questions. Keep up the great work.Read full review »
