“Love this podcast and have listened for years. This one on quantum mechanics is a case of tackling a subject that is difficult to get close to and, as you say, is counterintuitive. Great guest did an extraordinary job of bringing some inkling of comprehension to the concepts and possibilities of these ideas.
I have one significant criticism of your presentation of the subject. It is essential to understand this when trying to inform the mere mortals out here in listener land.
Quantum Mechanics is the behaviour of particles and forces at the extremely small scale. The ideas like entanglement, uncertainty, observation interference, only occur at the very small, or quantum scale. For the average listener it is essential to distinguish this scale from the real world where objects and natural scale interactions take place. It is essential to preface any public discussion of QM with this explainer, otherwise people will not be able to overcome the apparent contradiction to observed life and dismiss it as spooky stuff.
As a journo, and science journo at that, I feel you missed an opportunity to help your audience get a handle on this most mysterious, yet clearly profound, aspect of modern science. QM knowledge will have an effect on society in time and it will be part of the economy, which is this publications foundation.
Context and basic explanation as a prelude to an interview will give your audience AND your interviewee much greater clarity as to what is being discussed.
Yes, I’m a producer. Very annoying I’m sure.
Otherwise….? Love your work…
Cheers!”
