Did you ever expect something to happen, and it didn’t? This circumstance occurs almost every day. Naturally, we are disappointed when our expectations are not met. Most often we have higher expectations of our loved ones, our spouses, children, and other family members. Beyond our close family circle, we have teachers, coaches, pastors, and other leaders in whom we place our confidence. Yet time and again we are disappointed. They never seem to live up to our expectations of them. How about our prayers? When we pray and ask God for things to happen and they don’t happen, or even worse when we receive what we believe to be a response to our prayers from God and then it doesn’t happen. At least the answer to our prayers does not occur in the way we expect or in the timeframe we expect. We are disappointed and then often we become discouraged. The fear of being disappointed effects all our relationships at one time or another. How can we overcome the fear of disappointment? Come listen to Papa Tom describe a series of stories in which unrealized expectations are addressed. How can we overcome disappointment and discouragement. Our expectations are created by our perception of people, events, and circumstances. There are forces at work trying to effect of perception of people, places, things, and circumstances. The Word of God is our only true source to give us the truth and help us perceive what is true and what is not true. After all it is written! The vertical relationship we have with our Father effects how we perceive life and how our expectations square with the Word when our expectations seem to run counter to reality. Do we place a higher value on what we perceive reality appears to be, or on what the Word says is true? Papa Tom describes several stories in which the truth was different than what reality appeared to be. Yet, at the conclusion the truth came to light. Many of David’s psalms start out negative, at least David is complaining about what he sees, yet by the end of the psalm God reveals to David what the truth is, and David becomes uplifted by the truth. So too will you be lifted up when you read the Psalms. The way to overcome our is disappointment is to change our perception. Prayer and the Word are the tools at our disposal to help us accomplish this change of perception. When in doubt put on “Son-glasses”. Come and listen, enjoy, and connect with God Your Father!
