"Brett Christian, in alliance with the Second Amendment Foundation and Firearms Policy Coalition, has filed a lawsuit against the state of New York. This action is in response to a new legislative initiative, Senate Bill S 51001, which imposes severe restrictions on carrying firearms in public spaces. The bill, which was quickly passed by the Democrat-controlled state legislature and signed by Governor Kathy Hochul, follows a landmark Supreme Court ruling that deemed New York's previous concealed carry regulations unconstitutional. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York, names Kevin Bruen, superintendent of the New York State Police, and John J. Flynn, Erie County District Attorney, as defendants. The plaintiffs argue that the new law's designations of 'sensitive location' and 'restricted location,' along with its enforcement, effectively amount to a ban on the public bearing of arms in most places.
