Description
George Waters is originally from Long Island, NY - his first tentative steps into the business of golf were at St. George's Country Club on Long Island where he worked on the greens team during summer breaks. George would go on to work on the maintenance teams at Royal Dornoch, Merion and The California Club.
While studying an economics undergraduate degree, George contacted Tom Doak of Renaissance Golf Design who urged him, over an number of years, to travel as widely as possible, gain on-course experience and consider post-graduate study of landscape architecture.
While at the University of Guelph George was accepted as an intern with Renaissance Golf Design, this move would ultimately mean exposure to restoration and design/build projects such as Yeaman's Hall, Mid-Ocean, Pasatiempo, Barnbougle Dunes, Rock Creek Cattle Company, Sebonak, The Renaissance Club and the Strand 9 at Rosapenna.
George would go on to work on the Coore and Crenshaw restoration at Pinehurst #2, Kyle Philips' historical renovation at The Cal Club and on the reimagining of Mid Pines in conjunction with Kyle Franz.
George now works for the USGA Green Section as Education Manager - given the scope of his expereinces to date he is the ideal guest to explore the intersection of golf course design and maintenance.
