God leaves you here on this earth “To press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:14). God has given you the resources to ensure you win the race. If you are going to get the winner's crown you must have self-control, self-discipline and self-restraint. Self-control: using your volition to keep your sinful nature in check. Self-discipline: to study God’s Word daily under the ministry of a well-qualified pastor. Self-restraint: avoiding the nonessential things in life and not being impulsive. The only way to know yourself is to look into the mirror of the Word of God and see yourself as you really are. But you can’t look into the mirror of God’s Word if you don’t know it. “Bodily discipline is of little profit but godliness is profitable for all things” (1 Tim 4:8).
