43. The First Matildas: National or Representative?
Listen now
Description
Rory is joined by journalist and podcaster Sam Lewis to discuss the maelstrom of issues surrounding the 'first' Matildas team, a recent controversy which has reshaped Women's football in Australia. Sam published an article at the beginning of July explaining the issues surrounding the 1975 side who played in what came to be recognised as the first Women's Asian Cup. Their recent recognition as the first Australian Women's National Team has been problematic and caused serious issues among the Matildas alumni. Rory and Sam also discuss the difficulty in tracing historic records from Women's football and other common issues in studying one of football's most forgotten areas of history.
