“As to the usefulness and fitness of the materials to be found herein, it would not befit a man of my education and bearing but to admit the truth, despite the oft-nameless hesitations born in my breast. A struggle within me is occasionally loosed; it is a contest between no less than nature and civilization - between my natural defensive inclination, shared by all creatures from the lowest worm to the most ethereal and celestial of intellects, and my civilized mores, which insist on rationality and the simple responsibilities of clarity, complete measure, and earnest forthcoming.
In that I would like to report that it is ever the latter which has remained triumphant, no matter how troubling the private implications of this inner contention and its nearness such as I am ashamed to fully describe, it is... it is incumbent upon me now to relate, in the name of Reason, the truth of the evaluation which is, after all, the subject of and impetus behind this hasty post.
I feel I must reiterate that the ethical, moral, and personal implications of this truth are of such tangled and troubling contradiction that, in weighing it, I have on occasion frowned and mumbled some irritated ejaculation thoughtlessly - much to the surprise and light scandal of the simple villagers with whom I share my demesne, but no: the truth must be made known that the precision, insight, and overall qaulity of this effort has always been and remains quite high - aberrantly, hideously and inexplicably so.”
