“This is only video game podcast that I’ve ever listened to that I actually like.
What makes it great is a gestalt of a endlessly witty host, Alex Jaffe, a cast with broad perspectives and experiences, and a format that goes down easy.
Tim Rogers, an eclectic genius, writer, video game critic, game designer, weirdo with a big personality, a prickly skin, and warm gooey center - if only you make it the 5th hour of one of his YT reviews. Tim is great. Tim can be a jerk. But mostly, he is thoughtful, and brings out the best in his is other podcasters. Tim is self-reportedly a Jack-Russell Terrier of a man.
Brandon Sheffeild, is a thoughtful, mild, and considerate game designer, and - I believe - CEO of Necrosoft games. I’ve come to really enjoy his thoughtful analysis of game design, and his creative responses to game design questions. He is clearly someone who has critically engaged with game design across the spectrum of games. Brandon is in one of his friend’s estimations a chihuahua of dogs - another self-disclosure.
Frank Cifaldi is the the head of the Video Game History. I don’t remember which dog Frank identified as, but in my humble opinion, Frank is a wolf. He is reserved, confidant, and deadly. While Frank seems intimately knowledgeable of the history of games, he fits the everyman archetype. He likes a tall soda, and pork chop, and good ol’ fashioned polished AAA game, with the occasional side of nostalgic forray into insert credity 7/10 excellence. Frank is insightful, and direct. Frank’s wife is poggers. This speaks well of Frank.
Alex Jaffe is the glue that holds together these disparate voices and styles. His quick wit, savvy, Tim-management(not mispelled), and judicious moderation make for an ever chugging, and fun format. Alex keeps the perrenially wobbling train on those goddamn rails. In my estimation, Alex is the Amaterasu of dogs.
And most importantly, this is a podcast that doesn’t complain about political correctness, wokeness, or cancel culture incessantly. In fact, they make fun of those who do! WOW! What a twist!”
