“One day, I was scrolling through YouTube, watching Football videos, hoping to see someone to tell me that Jose Mourinho isn’t a fraud and will succeed at Tottenham. I come across this chap called James Allcott and like his vibe, so I subscribe, watch a few videos and move on with my day.
Another day, a few months later, I see an episode of something called “JAFFN” and work out that it must be a podcast that he does with his best mate. I watch it much like you start watching an bizarre international film that’s two thirds done late on a Thursday night. I don’t understand the stories, I don’t speak the language, I don’t have a clue what’s going on in almost any way shape or form, and yet I’m completely captivated. I can’t stop watching, and I don’t.
Many, many days after that, I proudly call myself a moist slug whose favourite word is “sandwich”, knows every strategy to maximise buffet-eating abilities, have thought about my mother in ways that no sensible human being should, and is fully prepared to travel from Australia to the UK to meet up at Fleet Services to have a group nosh session with two fully grown men with wives and children.
I love both of you lads so much, your humour, interactions and absurdities have brought me, and so many others so much joy. Thank you for all of it and some, listening to the pod on the train home from uni or on my computer distracting me from doing work or wherever else I may be listening, is genuinely one of my favourites parts of every week.
To Flav, I wish you nothing but the best in your marriage and the future ahead, and to Jim, I wish you and your family the same too. All the love and all the best.
