Description
Vocalist and Guitarist Trevor Sullivan, as well as Vocalist and Keyboardist Jon Garniss of 5-Piece Punk-Rock Theater-Emo Band Bullpup, Zoom in to The Junk and Jam Hour - along with their inanimate friend Stanley - to chat about their early journeys in music, leading up to their incredible collaboration in producing music that speaks to their authenticity, vivacity, queerness and their courage to call out societal bullsh*t.
On topic is their new music, including the beautifully gritty, 'Veronica Sawyer's Big Day Out' , featuring Glynnis Brennan of Indie Pop Band Shallow Pools, in which the music and lyrics carefully recounts the pain and frustration that assault survivors - including those within the LGBTQ+ community - continually endure, as well as narrate their own experiences as it relates to homophobia, transphobia and sexual violence.
In speaking of their new music and upcoming album Be Evil, which they boldly tackle the world's heaviest subjects, they give a considerable hat tip to the contributions of their recent member and guitarist Robby Beland, for pushing them out of their comfort zone to be their most capable selves and musicians - and talk about why they felt so compelled to make a record that calls out the sketchiness of the industry.
While on topic about the safety and dangers of the music scene and industry - particularly for women and young, impressionable artists - we also have a listen to and discuss, 'Birch Bark,' a Bullpup song that speaks to Jon's experience about experimenting with and wearing women's clothing since childhood. Jon further talks about their exploration into their non-binary existence.
