Description
Suicide Prevention…it’s something we all know, something still seemingly not worth discussing yet we all post about it once a year for a month and then never heard about it again for another 11 months. We sat down with Dr. Stephanie Davis to discuss her role at the Eastern Kansas VA as Director of Suicide Awareness and Prevention. This is not just a military or veteran issue even though rates of suicide are significantly higher, especially in the male population. Why though? What is so terrifying about the struggle of life? Life is about suffering but in ways that make it worth while. How do we help? How can we help? Is there an actual way to prevent these tragedies?
I’ve had 4 deployments myself, I struggled when I came back. I personally hurt, especially when I got out of the military. I had nothing to fill that void, to make it better, to complete my life. I was lost. I also considered suicide, in my thoughts I said well, death would be better than the struggle of living an unhappy life. I had everything, money, a very beautiful girlfriend, on track to be a doctor and hopefully going back into become a Green Beret but I was not happy. I needed help, I needed treatment.
I live my life now to help those who struggle, who need that help. We genuinely hope this episode helps you and you reach out…to anyone, to Dr. Davis, myself, Jeffrey, anyone.
Tom welcomes on Zach, or better known as the "Veteran With A Sign". Learning the inspiration, meaning, and drive behind Zach and Veteran With A Sign is something that every veteran ( and civilian) should be aware of, which is why we hope this particular episode makes it to the ears of so many....
