Unlistenable. Why does Pushkin Industries Dumb Down All Their Podcasts?
Big fan of Jill Lepore so was looking forward to this podcast. First episode was unlistenable, why do they have the re-enactments and goofy voices? Dont they trust the listener enough to pay attention to a story without the special effects? Plus Lepore’s does something with her voice to make her sound like a goofy elementary school teacher, cant imagine this is how she lectures to her Harvard students. For some reason, writers that I respect and enjoy seem to do their worst work for Pushkin Industry podcasts. Michael Lewis is terrific but his podcast was his worst effort to date, not very well thought out. Uncharacteristic for someone who is usually very thorough and engaging with a distinct point of view.
