Can’t wait for more
“To answer a question about the history of evidence, you don’t start with philosophy, you start with a single mystery...” After reading some other reviews, I felt I needed to leave my own take. I understand how fans of Jill Lepore might find the re-enactments and gumshoe frame trope-ish. I understand it may feel off putting. Answering huge questions about the “history of evidence” doesn’t have to sound like a lecture from a Harvard professor (whatever that may sound like) in order to plumb philosophical depths. A narrative framework and a bit of humor go a long way in opening ears to questions that are hard to ask and answers that may challenge our assumptions. I was thoroughly fascinated and went back to listen to the first episode again, happy to ruminate on serious things as guided by programming that didn’t take itself so totally and completely seriously.

As an archivist and a fan of Jill Lepore’s, I’m probably the exact target demo for this podcast ... and that’s totally fine by me. I am excited for future episodes to explore the gaps in the documentary record, what can and cannot be known about history, how the same sources of evidence are used...Read full review »
