The Akkra Case by Miriam Allen de Ford, that’s next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast. Miriam Allen DeFord has never been on our podcast until today. Born in 1888, in Philadelphia, she is best known for her contributions to science fiction, mystery, and true crime. DeFord’s career spanned many decades, during which she produced almost 100 short stories. Her work was featured on Alfred Hitchcock Presents in 1958, an episode based on her short story Death Sentence a decade earlier. More than a decade later she was credited on Rod Serling’s Night Gallery for a story she had written, A Death in the Family and she also contributed stories to the TV shows Orson Welles Great Mysteries, The Wide World of Mystery and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. Though she wrote in several genres, DeFord is perhaps best remembered for her contributions to science fiction. She was a part of the science fiction community during its early years, contributing to magazines like Amazing Stories and The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. Today’s story was published in 1962 when she was 73 years old.
