Approaching the quarter-mark of the season, Matt Chapman's rough start is analyzed. On defense, his -4 Outs Above Average (tied for worst in MLB) ranks 34th among 3rd Basemen. On offense, he's slashing .204/.257/.338 and a 72 wRC+. Luckily there's plenty of baseball left to right the ship. Pitchers Park Podcast is part of the Fans First Sports Network. In their last episode, Bryan and Doug proclaimed it YAMAMOTO OR BUST... well... we're in BUST territory, and so now both hosts pitch their ideas for what constitutes the next pivot for this strange offseason. They also discuss the Jung Hoo Lee deal and the decade-plus of decisions and philosophy that have put the Giants so far back of their once archrivals.

What's the Giants' big move or series of moves this offseason now that their archrival has added the best player on the planet to its roster? Bryan and Doug return not to lament but to plan out what the team could do that might help them save face while keeping pace with a team they were supposed to compete against, but after five years of a new front office, have only fallen farther behind. Then they talk about what the Ohtani signing could mean for the future of Giants Baseball before...

The San Francisco Giants announced most of their coaching staff for the 2024 season this past Friday night, and Bryan and Doug examine the highs and lows of everyone's resumes. They also discuss Michael Conforto's decision to opt-in to $18 million for 2024 (a bummer? a shrug?) and the player awards season. All that before the (30:50) mark where they get into free agency and where the Giants can go based on their budget and based on need. Point of fact: FanGraphs projects 7 years/$196 million...

Bryan and Doug return to evaluate the San Francisco Giants' first big move of their offseason: hiring Bob Melvin away from the San Diego Padres. It's a move that crosses a lot of t's and dots a lot of i's but leaves very little to the imagination. Are there any actual surprises in store for the team or are they following a script written by season ticketholders? Meanwhile, some listener questions are finally answered including one important question the hosts had never before...

The Giants fell face-first while running down the stretch and the President of Baseball Operations' end of season press conference did little to assuage any fears that next year would be different. Bryan and Doug delve into the obvious but also deeper meanings of some of the highlights from Farhan Zaidi's conference and toy with the premise that we're living in a new era of Baseball stubbornness. They also give their final trust power rankings of the season (32:08) and the results are...

The San Francisco Giants fired their manager in an attempt to course correct, but it's a maneuver that might create more questions than it answers. Bryan and Doug look at Farhan Zaidi's lame duck status, the termination itself, and how nothing can meaningfully change restrictions put in place by ownership. After a terrible 79-83 season, the team enters yet another make-or-break offseason in an increasingly uncertain future. SF: Nothing Like It.

Bryan and Doug try to pull out some positives from the collapsing structure that was the 2023 San Francisco Giants season. The problem is the list of negatives is much longer and fan and player grievances are warranted. Neither host thinks the front office needs to be excused, but that doesn't make them immune from criticism over this next season. The last few weeks have revealed some really janky process, a facet of the Baseball Operations department that was supposed to be world-class....

The Giants are very close to simply playing out the string and that puts Bryan and Doug in a cranky mood. On top of the team's disappointing 76-76 record, Alex Cobb's season and Brandon Crawford's Giants career appear to be over. Bryan also asks Doug some pointed questions about the shape of the offseason.

The San Francisco Giants managed to have a successful homestand, but it still didn't answer every open question we have about these 2023 Giants in what's now the final 3 weeks of the regular season. Do they have what it takes to get in as the last Wild Card? Guess we'll find out. What we do know is that Ross Stripling WILL return in 2024, to the surprising of exactly none of us. Also, what's eating the Giants' attendance? They're 17th out of 30 teams now. Is this the new normal?

There are just 22 games left in the season and it's getting harder and harder to see what's so great about the San Francisco Giants. That won't stop us from ranking the trustworthiness of their bullpen, once the team's greatest strength. Bryan and Doug also take some time to examine some comments Farhan Zaidi made while the team was in Chicago. Is 2023 a speedrun of the 2019 season... or a season far more haunting? They also play Interesting & Concerning.
