A good setting and a great listen.
As a fan of audiobooks it's nice to see, and having my eyes opened to, the world of podcast-audiobooks via this podcast. There is clearly a detailed setting here, and draws it's own flavour from a set of broad influences. High fantasy seems to take centre stage in this conglomerate of both it and, as the author states, a cyberpunk setting. It does seem more to me of a sci-fi occult setting, taking a modern view upon the often myriad of species and abilities that occur in high fantasy. One thing that did strike me from my pre-emptive thoughts, was how the sci-fi element took a back stage. It is undoubtedly what enables familiarity, but ultimately I would say this is not for those that purely are interested in a setting, due to the science-side of sci-fi. There is a very scientific element within the podcast, and this is on the medical side of things. I attribute this to being the author's field, but it seems overly indulgent into describing medical details, when other areas, such as how craft 'fly', are left to just be assumed. This I think needs a greater air of finding a balance between how much the author details in the science and technology of this world. I could sum this podcast up, albeit with difficulty, by saying that it's a set of personal views upon a very complex, and compelling setting. Due to this dramatic element, I would also say that it would be an easy avenue for those that are not a fan of high fantasy, or sci-fi settings, to gain a taste of what it's like. Despite certain issues, such as balancing how much detail is given to certain elements, this is a podcast that's easy to listen to, and for most people should keep them entertained.

This podcast is one of the very few that I listen to as soon as I see there is a new episode. The stories are engaging, the characters are realistic, and the author doesn't shy away from the bad things that can happen from poor decisions on the part of the characters. The setting is one that...Read full review »
