“If you weren’t familiar with the hosts of The Movies That Made Me, it would still be a terrific podcast. It’s delightful to learn about your favorite writer or director’s wide range of unexpected influences, and the enthusiasm is infectious. Who would’ve guessed that Thomas Jane is a French crime film aficionado, or that Don Coscarelli, director of the flying-death-sphere/creepy mortician masterpiece Phantasm, is a fan of the post-WWII melodrama The Best Years of Our Lives? Each episode results in me adding more movies to my to-be-watched stack, often ones I never would’ve considered watching in a million years (e.g., Pollyanna).
But what makes it extra special is that the co-host is the great director Joe Dante. He’s very funny and informative, and, well, it’s just *cool* to be able to listen in as he discusses the movies with the guests.”
