“First, I want to say that I have enjoyed this podcast, it’s one of a few different “true crime” podcasts that I listen to regularly...
But today, as I listened to the “Jennifer Kesse/Missoula Mauler episode, I was shocked to hear one of the hosts use very disrespectful, and callous descriptors, while speaking about the horrific murder, and sexual assault of one of the Missoula Maulers victims....... Donna Pounds was someone’s daughter, someone’s wife, someone’s mother..... what was done to her was horrific, and beyond terrifying...... I can’t imagine how her family must have felt upon learning what she endured.... So, even though it’s been decades since she was killed, I’m certain it’s still very hard for any of her surviving family and loved ones to be reminded of what happened..... so, I imagine, it’s even worse when you hear her murder be described through giggles, and extremely tactless speculation.... she was sexually assaulted by a gun, and your question was graphic and unnecessary..... I’m sure that information was something you could have easily found instead of asking it on the show for your listeners to hear.. then describing her brain as “Swiss cheese” after the gunshots to her head while you literally laughed, and praised the phrasing as something great, and deciding not to edit it out.....
I do not think you intended any harm..... And I certainly don’t think that it speaks to anything bad about either of you.... I know this is something you already know, but words do matter, and as hosts of a true crime podcast, you have a duty to report the truth, and give voice to the voiceless..... it’s not about sensationalizing the crime, it’s about remembering the ones who lost their lives to that crime, and to continue to speak for and fight for justice.......
Again, I apologize if this comes across as catty or judgmental.... that’s not my intention.... but I felt compelled to say something..... thank you”
