In the late 1960s, a new pop sound arrived on the scene. Geared toward kids and adolescents, this new subgenre earned the name "bubblegum pop." Many of the monster hits that fall under this "sweet" new sound were recorded by one-hit wonders. Others dominated not only the radio charts but television ratings as well.
