I have been singing and actively trying to research, understand and improve my voice for 2 and half years now after making a decision to join a band.
It has been an extremely steep learning curve, as prior to this I have had no experience apart from singing in the shower and some natural ability, which can only take you so far.
This pursuit opened up a whole world of questions! It is difficult to wade through the information out there, there is so much and it is easy to drown in information overload!
Chris Johnson & Steve Giles podcast was a shining light in the darkness. The guys are extremely personable, knowledgeable and highly entertaining too. They bring the world of vocal professionals to you in digestible chunks.
Although highly knowledgeable in the science and anatomy of singing they are still curious and willing to talk through every approach with an open mind.
Chris and Steve’s podcast is a forum not only for their own opinions, knowledge and experience but is opened up to discussion of a huge range of techniques and topics from experts around the world. No question is too big or too small and nothing it seems is out-of-bounds.
The Naked Vocalist is a valuable asset that is relevant to beginners like myself and advanced singers and coaches alike. Their approach is very real-world and relatable. I love how they not only teach but are also performers themselves so understand and can legitimately comment on what it it’s like from both sides of the fence.
I have come to realise that everyone arrives at the beginning of their vocal journey at a different point and no blanket approach will suit. The Naked Vocalist acknowledges this and there is a real feeling that this is a voyage of discovery that we are on together. Forever learning!”
