Enjoyable BUT….
Highly enjoyable podcast, the only negative I have to say is please please please never have Charles Esdaile on the show again. I was really looking forward to the episode having seen the title but by the gods, Charles is literally the atypical stereotype of immensely boring and up their own backside historian who can’t fathom how us little people can put up with actually having FUN and ENJOYING history. You know what Charles? Yes. Games, movies, books dealing with historical periods take liberties with the historical truth. But surely if these little slips help entice new people to see how brilliant history is, is it not worth it? Especially since the more they study their new interest, they can discover the truths that are distorted to allow more enjoyment of the film/book/game. Charles, if your main enjoyment of a historical game/book/film is pointing out all the inaccuracies then please seek professional help. Can anyone imagine being stuck in a train carriage with Charles and have to listen for 2 hours as he points out how the specific maroon colour used on the 52nd Regiments lapels didn’t ACTUALLY appear until 2 years after the events portrayed in a movie? Sounds worse than listening to Arnold Rimmer discussing his rambling holiday through the diesel decks…..

You would think that after 200years, British historians would have enough professionalism to speak about the Napolionic wars in the slightest neutral terms, but sadly this is not the case. The anti-Napoleonic sentiment oozes from every word. I’m suprised they didn’t...Read full review »

Great show for history nerds. Very in depth and the topics are usually very interesting. I could do a bit without the extended banter at the beginning (though I am sure some consider it part of the charm), but a fantastic listen.
