Overcoming Addiction: African Spirituality and Agency
Listen now
Description
Duron Zuri joins me on the Show to share his short story about how he beat his addiction. It is a story of letting go and letting God he said, tapping into his African Spirituality and developing a consciousness that helped to build his"agency". What is "Agency"? According to Prof. Mazama, Africologists and Chair of the Africology Department at #templeuniversity stated in a Lecture that, agency is the ability to act in one behalf, to move in a way that improves self or for self-improvement. Many struggle to act in ways that help themselves due to a lack of agency. This Agency is what Afrocentricity promotes to challenge the perceptions about people in Africa who lack agency to act in ways that Africans and people have always worked for one's betterment. Faith helps to facilitate this agency, not a Christian one or a Jewish one, but one that speaks to a people's culture and center that revolutionizes consciousness. #africology then becomes an essential aspect of helping to reduce recidivism since it facilitates the development of agency and a change in perception and consciousness, a necessary step towards sobriety and recovery.
