“Media literacy and respect for their audience has gone out the window. Lost me 8/12/24 with the “Josh” interview. The intro was straight up a recap of Last Word w/ Lawrence O’Donnell and then the interview with “Josh”, no last name, was ableist and offensive. “Biden literally can’t articulate…” with zero push back from Andy. “Josh” with no last name is not a “publisher of a newsletter”, that’s white washing and spit shinning a Twitter person; he’s just an internet troll with a website aka blog who blends up Politico articles and sprinkles terminally online black pilled hate on top. Calling his speculation a “prediction”, or saying he “correctly predicted” something many people had also assumed/ speculated about is obtuse and lazy. Plain and simple, lazy. And placing him in front of Shannon Watts, Moms Demand Action activist, author, and person with a last name? Boy, bye.
If you want to regurgitate other media outlets, cite them. And make sure they are reputable because they’re being amplified. Make it a recap of last night’s televised news, sure, just say so. Find and identify information, acknowledge the sources, and boom you’ve got 3 of 5 pillars of media/information literacy. If it’s a person concealing their identity with a blog, call it a blog; call it “opinion” because that’s what it is and that’s what journalists would call it. And maybe inquire as to why they are concealing their identity, ask where they are getting their information to form these “predictions”. Do a journalism and turn the rock over. That’s pillars 4 and 5, evaluate and apply.
The audio quality is inconsistent and often unprofessional. It should have gotten better by now. Andy does not “sit comfortably on the left”, he’s just like Tim Miller who couldn’t cut it in conservative media so now holds space LARPing as a moderate and hindering actual progressive discourse. And now he’s the voice advertising menopause hormone therapy? All of that is a failure on the part of production. Boy, bye.
I miss the information and media literacy, and respect for the listening audience, of Kelly Weill and Will Sommer. They told us to listen to this, but Daily Beast has lost me and clearly lost a bit of themselves with this podcast.”
