“I do enjoy this podcast and the two Matts’ take on politics and world events. But I do have a grumbling concern that’s reached a head today. It’s overwhelmingly male! The two Matts are both men, their producer (the third Matt) is a man. I haven’t listened to every Two Matts podcast, but I’ve listened to most of them and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a woman on this show. Podcasts do better with diversity. Oh God What Now do this beautifully and it brings a range of views and experience. Even The Rest is Politics does it well. While both the presenters are men, they regularly interview and have women on the show. But the The Two Matts is an exclusively male domain and it shows. This was a background grumble until the latest episode where one of the Matts was very concerned about the “crucifixion” (he used that word repeatedly) of the male Spanish football official who kissed / sexually assaulted a female Spanish footballer. Now I’m happy (and I want) nuance. But I really don’t want two men mansplaining with no female voice about how we shouldn’t “crucify” men who sexually assault women. I don’t know if I’ll carry on listening or not. The male gaze of this podcast has bothered me for some time, today may be the final straw.”
