The Nocturnist presents Shame in Medicine
After reading a review in the New York Times on this series, I was intrigued to listen to it. Brene Brown has researched and written about Shane, and I was curious as to how this could be applied to the process of becoming a physician. I was immediately drawn in, by the personal stories and the research, which made these stories less anecdotal and more representative of what many people experience before, during, and after their medical training. It gave me more insight into the struggles of these young people as they strove to achieve their goals that they had set years before, prior to truly understanding what this path would demand.

Latha Panchap’s experience is very relatable from other fields of study as well. Been there too.

Emily Silverman, her team and the storytellers have gifted us with a treasure at just the right time in medicine. We do well to listen not just the sake of our patients, but for our own.
