Slow, boring and insightless
Full disclaimer, I only listened to one episode (270) but if the podcast is still as disjointed, rambling and poorly researched at episode 270, I doubt it will improve. The hour and a half was basically a retelling of every minute detail of what happened in the episode (we watched it, we know) with little to no analysis, insight or actual discussion beyond the two hosts arguing about whether something happened that way in the book vs the show. If you’re going to host a podcast about the adaptation from the book to the show, you should probably be something of an expert on the source material (and even if you aren’t, you should do your homework by reading summaries of the book before hosting a 1.5 hour show about it. A quick read of The Outlandish Companion summary of Drums of Autumn for example?). Arguing with each other about what happened in the books or not isn’t cute or amusing - it’s boring, and reveals your lack of knowledge which is a little embarrassing. You should know exactly what was changed and have thoughtful analysis as to why it was changed or what that change will mean for future storylines. I suggest watching Preston Jacobs’ Game Of Thrones episodic analysis videos for ideas about how to create something of substance in future. Definitely won’t waste another hour of my life on a second episode.

You two are great together! I love this podcast. Your enthusiasm and love of all things outlander comes through every podcast. No complaining about casting or hair color! I love it! Keep up the great work.

The first episode I listed to was the interview with Diana Gabaldon and was delighted by it. A short time later I began listening to the Dragonfly in Amber read along. The Outlander Podcast is joyful with a bit of zany. On Twitter, Summer describes herself as the snarky half of @outlanderpod. ...Read full review »
