Great music, somewhat problematic.
I wanted to love this but have some issues with the themes. The first episode espouses toxic positivity, with the mother owl telling her family to “just be happy” instead of working through tough emotions, like disappointment and hurt feelings. Throughout the episodes, there’s this dynamic of reactive father and wise mother, which just plays into harmful gender roles/stereotypes that we should be moving away from. The families are all your typical mom, dad, two kids… why reinforce the norm? Why not do something inclusive? There’s a lot of talent and choice out there - so I see no reason to keep listening to something that, while not totally bad, doesn’t create an inclusive atmosphere to teach my kids about different types of families, inclusivity, and healthy coping mechanisms. Ultimately 3 stars for the score and the fact that my daughter enjoyed it, and it’s new enough that I hope the creators can do some reflection, research, and evolve it into a more thoughtful podcast for kids.
