Kali Uchis, born Karly-Marina Loaiza on July 17, 1994, in Alexandria, Virginia, is a Colombian-American singer-songwriter, record producer, music video director, and fashion designer, known for her versatile musical style that spans across a variety of genres. Her journey into the music industry began with the release of her mixtape "Drunken Babble" in 2012, which was followed by her debut EP "Por Vida" in 2015 and her first studio album "Isolation" in 2018. Throughout her career, Uchis has collaborated with a plethora of artists across different genres, including Tyler, The Creator, Gorillaz, Daniel Caesar, Juanes, and BadBadNotGood. Her song "Te Mata," from her upcoming fourth studio album, is set to release on October 20, 2023. This song was recorded between 2021 and 2022 and is part of the album titled "KU4." "Te Mata" delves into themes of empowerment and liberation from a toxic relationship, where Uchis, through her lyrics, narrates a tale of finding strength and freedom from a toxic dynamic, portraying herself metaphorically as a devil (diabla) in the story of her ex-partner.
