Today I revisit my conversation with artist and performer Chris Dobrowolski as we focus on the motivation for Chris' new show 'Toy Stories'. We look at the implicit challenges in creating and performing the same material night after night and discuss the notion of authenticity, a central motif of Chris' work. Chris shares his thoughts on the fluid boundaries between what is perceived as real and the unreal and how he uses that in his show. Please join me as we look at art through a different lens. As an artist and even a human being, we change over time. An artist can’t be expected to do the same content, presentations or show time and time again. There will be and has to be natural variation. Authenticity is challenging when performing repetitive material, but finding genuineness in the fakeness helps. Allowing creativity to flow without the pressure of success can be freeing. Audience perception shifts based on how and where art is presented. Timing and building audience expectations are key in comedy.
