“I enjoyed this podcast until I heard the last episode, ’The Sweetheart Swindler part 2’, which contained vehemently racist propaganda about Romani people.
In the episode, the male host said he was shocked to learn about the Romani. Well, I guess he simply wasn’t familiar with National Socialist propaganda (which is increasingly popular in Europe), and so wouldn’t have heard this before.
Almost every sentence the female guest said about the Romani was either false and/or explicitly racist. If you replaced who she incorrectly referred to as ’Roms’ with ’Jews’ you would see how ridiculous her propaganda is. In fact, a people lacking a nationstate, the history of the Romani is a mirror image of that of the Jews. (Both cultures also happen to have significant cultural overlap.) And yes, the Romani were also persecuted and killed by the Nazis in the holocaust.
(And no, the name of the ’Romani’ have nothing to do with Romania. ’Rom’ means ’man’ in Romani.)”
