Culturally myopic
This program oozes an unstated assumption of the superiority of western philosophy, and presumption that Anglo-saxon / USA mores and cultural norms are universal. There is the occasional tidbit from an African or Asian perspective, but the mainstay will not challenge a European centric view. The latest program about aging was a howler: some cultures venerate the elderly; most are brought up in close physical and emotional contact and love for their grandparents. The ABC can do better in presenting a pluralistic, culturally rich view of philosophy.

Alan's loud breathing whilst the other guests are speaking can be very distracting.Read full review »

I learn a lot from this program about both historical and contemporary philosophers; and how to think deeply and clearly about what really matters in life. Thanks for a great program - don’t stop!
