This week we are unpacking the most recent news on an Alaska airlines pilot who had a mental health breakdown during a flight from Paine Field to San Francisco. Joseph Emerson is a 44-year-old Alaska Airlines pilot who was jump seating on Horizon Airlines and was quoted saying “I am not ok” before he pulled two T handles known as fire handles that shut off fuel to the engines. Emerson was successfully subdued by the crew and taken into custody where he shared he had not slept for 40 hours, had just attended a friend’s funeral a few days prior & was suffering from depression.
