Twice in the 1980s I visited Rabindranath Tagore's home in rural Bengal.   Here's what I saw.  Aside from a spontaneous introduction and a few interpolations, the text comes from Chapter 2 of my Losing Asia (Johns Hopkins, 1996).  The final chapter of that book appears in the episode called "Softly, Softly."
