“With a lot of pop culture podcasts that are popping up these days, you get basically the same formula, a guy or a group of people sitting there are naming off any random memory they had based on whatever nostalgic theme they are talking about. There is little to no structure and even less production value. The Purple Stuff is different.
Once you get away from the earlier episodes (which are still great) they start finding their footing in terms of how their podcast structure works, but also the production quality. As soon as you hear that robot voice, (in the earlier episodes) blasts of music, and (in later episodes) that funky theme song, you know you are in for a treat.
Matt and Jay are incredibly knowledgable on every subject they are discussing. And I am not talking about surface level knowledge, they come at each topic at every angle with expert information that will surprise and inform even the most savvy pop culture fan. This is no doubt due to their many years of pop culture internet writing, with Jay and the Sexy Armpit, and Matt with both X-Entertainment and Dinosaur Dracula.
Not only are they experts in the realm of pop culture, but Matt and Jay share a particular chemistry that is so special, you wish you were friends with them in real life. Their banter towards each other alone is enough to keep your interest, and the Brutus the Beefcake Barber themes or Jay’s weird obsession with Monster High are just the icing on the cake.
When each episode ends, you are left wanting more, and the anticipation for the next episode begins. It’s truly something special, and Matt and Jay have given all of us a great podcast to listen to. Take not, the best time to start getting into this podcast is during Halloween when Matt and Jay are at their absolute best.”
