“I really enjoy the post-game recaps and the consistent content that the Raptors Republic puts out.
But I had to turn off the most recent episode because Barry went on an extremely long rant about how the WNBA pay “is not a gendered issue” because it’s an inferior product and how bringing up the NBA comparison gives fodder to “idiots to mansplain” while he was in the midst of a mansplaining session. It’s important to think about how the WNBA and NBA are linked and how there isn’t any investment to market the WNBA as a product. While sports may not be “real life” for people, it’s the way these athletes (male or female) make a living. These women don’t have off seasons because they need to play oversees so that they can make a living playing basketball. The WNBA isn’t asking for as much money as the NBA, they just want a fair salary. A similar issue of pay arises from the Canadian and American women’s soccer teams, which are both highly successful and widely watched but make less money than their (far less internationally successful) male counterparts. Just food for thought!
Thanks for the hard work guys!”
