“I have appreciated finding this space both as a graduate of NYU and as one keenly interested in the topic of religion and society.
Loved many of your articles thus far but found this podcast and the article on yoga and religion quite disappointing, shortsighted and misleading. I am a yoga teacher, yoga teacher’s trainer and certified yoga therapist who has studied yoga for more than 30 years. What was discussed here had little to do with yoga and religion and all to do with white centered western interpretation of yoga ( save the bit about yoga and racism) and the physical aspect of yoga. Very limiting and ignorant about what yoga is or is meant to evoke. Would prefer more enlightened questioning around this subject and of course someone with a greater knowledge, sensitivity and training on this subject- not just someone with an Indian name and PhD. Goat yoga??? You both can’t believe this is real yoga or drinking and cursing is yoga in all seriousness. Cultural appropriation and yoga yes! Please if you discuss this subject in the context of religion can you give it the same seriousness and intelligent investigation you would give other subjects. There is enough research out there to have a meaningful conversation about yoga and religion. As a Catholic I appreciated your last podcast. Can you please take yoga seriously also. This is offensive!
Baba black sheep!”
