“Regarding the e1 intro: Rhode Island is an island within the state of RI. It is commonly called Aquidneck Island (where you would find Portsmouth, Middletown, Newport), but the official name is Rhode Island. The rest of the state is—or was until the name changed—“Providence Plantations”. They changed the full name of the state because of contemporary connotations around the word “plantation”, but at the time Roger Williams established the settlement, the word was used almost interchangeably with “settlement” or “new community”. Anyway, Rhode Island is an island and it is the name sake of the larger state. Fake Rhode Islanders 🤪”
