After Rose tells Elena that Klaus is coming for her, Elena goes to the tomb to give Katherine blood in exchange for the truth about the sun and moon curse. Through flashbacks to 1490, Katherine tells Elena about the child who was taken away from her, how she ruined Trevor and Rose’s lives, and how she turned into a vampire. Damon and Rose also try to get to the bottom of things by visiting Rose’s friend Slater, who is an encyclopedia of all things supernatural. While Damon asks Slater if there’s any way to destroy the moonstone, Elijah makes an iconic return that nearly kills Rose and Slater. While all of this is going down, Bonnie meets the new kid in school, Luka, whose Dad is very unsubtle about the fact that he and Luka are “warlocks.” Back at the tomb, Detective Elena realizes that breaking the curse requires more than just the doppelgänger and that Katherine came back to town to give her, Tyler, Caroline, and Bonnie to Klaus for the sacrifice.
