“WW2 dominates 20th century history. In scale and barbarity it’s hard to appreciate. This saga whilst short on detail is a Sterling attempt to trace the journey from early causes to the final denouement of the German empire. Vignettes of major players and separate analysis of battles and strategic elements compensate for the absolute necessity of using overviews in a number of episodes. Highly recommend.”
