“This is a pretty good show. These guys have a genuine appreciation for film and the sci-fi genre. Their reviews are usually pretty good and tend to be fair. They not only thoroughly break down movies in all their aspects, but also examine how the movies fit within the context of the science fiction genre as a whole, and explore the deeper meanings beneath the stories on a surface level. They're also a bit older than the usual podcaster, so I don't get as much of a "fanboy" vibe from them as I do from other movie podcasts, which can be a positive, because as a regular listener of many movie podcasts, the prevalent tone of angry fanboys with extreme opinions gets tiresome.
That said, this show does have some problems.
For instance, one of the main guys, Rem, hates action in movies. You will know this, because Rem makes sure to remind us of this every single time he watches a movie that contains action. On top of that, he's pretty snobby about it, regularly denouncing action sequences as "mindless spectacle," doesn't appear to appreciate the appeal of action scenes at all, and never seems to think that action ever contributes to a movie. Rem's whining attitude gets old. Also, Rem frequently gets confused about the plot of the movie, more so than the other hosts of the show. The others keep having to explain the movie plots to him.
Also, a downside to these guys being a bit older than the usual podcaster is that their age bias sometimes shows. They're noticeably harsher against modern movies than they are with older movies. They really like to elevate overrated older films that honestly aren't that good.
Anyway, this is a decent show overall, so I could almost give it a 5 star rating. But for the unforgivable sin of hating Hans Zimmer's music compared to John Williams, I cannot, in good conscience, give this show anything above a 1 star rating.”
