“My primary source for American soccer news. Perhaps more than any single indicator, the quality of the USMNT player pool tells us how we’re doing and sheds light on where we’re headed. This is the focus of Scuffed. Adam and Greg cover current US senior team pool players and, more importantly to many, the dozens of promising younger candidates for future USMNT duty. There is a wave of talented youngsters currently settling in, moving to or preparing to head to Europe. Scuffed keeps tabs on many of these young players (and many others who continue to develop stateside), enabling listeners to know who’s who and to visualize future USMNT rosters. The interviews are quite good. Focused but not tethered down thanks to the podcast format. The interviews with the Sounders academy director and ATL USL coach were illuminating. I loved the super sized preview of Academies and the best DA prospects at the U17/19 levels. The host Adam Belz is a journalist in real life and this comes through in his careful avoidance of hyperbole and gimmicks. Greg (co-host/frequent collaborator) offers measured evaluations with his coach’s perspective. The two have a good rapport.
