The Selfish Mom Academy reflects a lot of positive change happening today in our culture for women; twenty years ago when I became a mom, I wanted to balance it all with being an architect, owning a firm AND I also wanted to have time for myself. I found that by doing a creative retreat once a year out of town for a couple of weeks and a few long hiking weekends--without family!—was key to being a better mom, wife and honestly, a key to being happy with my life. However, I can’t tell you how many times I heard things like “wow, you leave your kids with your husband for a week? I could never do that” or “I’d feel too guilty or selfish—I’ve never been away from my family overnight” from other moms and “I wish my wife would take time for herself and recharge” from dads I knew! The Selfish Mom podcast definitely spreads the word that it’s okay to make time for yourself and it will actually make you a better parent! Sara Dean is a wonderful, motivational speaker, full of humor and honesty about what it’s really like to be a mom in today’s world. The podcast is full of on point topics and practical ways to make a difference in how you can choose to balance your life in a way that works for you. Highly recommend it to anyone new-- or not so new-- to motherhood!

And I don’t want to hear all the time about how wonderful it is being a parent or...Read full review »
