Please Don't Treat Us Like Aliens: Loss, Love, and Lessons From The In-Between with author & advocate Myra Sack

Description
Please note this week's episode deals with the topic of child loss and may be sensitive for some listeners. If that is not the case for you, I implore you to listen to Myra's story. I'm going to be honest: I was scared to read this book. But I did, and it may be the most though provoking, heartbreaking, beautiful and important books I've ever read. For Myra Sack and her husband Matt, the mundane exhaustion and confusion of early parenthood came to a grinding halt just after their daughter Havi's first birthday, when she received a fatal medical diagnosis. For the next year, their grief was layered with a dedication to show Havi as much of the good life as they could, and converting their Friday Shabbats into "Shabbirthdays" - honoring the birthdays Havi would never have. Myra sat down with me this week to share Havi's story, the inspiration for her book "Fifty Seven Fridays: Losing Our Daughter, Finding Our Way" and her work as the founder of E-Motion, a nonprofit organization created to support community, movement and ritual to enhance coping and resilience. If you've ever know a grieving parent, and haven't know exactly what to say (aka 100% of us) - this episode is an absolute must listen. You will come away with some great new analogies (The Loss Olympics), ways to reframe how you think about a child who is dying (Sacred, Not Scary), and most importantly, how to show up for people when they really need you not to shy away.
