You Can't MAKE Your Baby or Toddler Sleep (Here's What You Can Do Instead)
Listen now
Description
"She woke up for 15 minutes during her nap...WHY? How can I make her sleep?" "He played for 20 minutes with his trucks after bedtime, how can I make him sleep instead?" These are total normal questions I get from clients, and here is what I tell them, and I want you to know: You can't. You cannot control your child's eyelids closing and falling asleep. Moreso, I don't want you to, and I don't care at all if either of the above scenarios occur. These are totally normal things! In today's episode, I want to help you release the urge to try and make your baby or toddler the perfect sleeper. No one is. Instead? My goal through the process for any client (and anyone listening to this!) is that your child is given the gift of knowing how to put themselves to sleep (and back to sleep when they wake!) and you, as the parent, have the gift of being able to release. Release the urge to feel that you should or even can control their exact sleep stats (leave me alone, Nanit!) and instead have the confidence that you A) are offering your child sleep at times that are appropriate B) trusting your child has the skills and will do with that time what they want and C) you have the tools to know when to make a change or seek help if something changes that is really abnormal.
